Jimmy Fallon let us sit in on his monologue rehearsal this afternoon.

I’ve been in the audience at 30 Rock when Jimmy rehearsed his monologue for The Tonight Show. It was exciting to be there and see how part of the show gets put together. But those rehearsals are open to just a small number of people.

Today, Jimmy and one of his producers, Gavin Purcell, opened up the reheasal to the world.

I saw Gavin down at SXSW this week and we talked about how he could use Meerkat with The Tonight Show. I think he found the perfect way.

By the end of the stream, there were 2,000 people watching.

This could be a new form of appointment viewing. In order to see it you must tune and watch live, or it’s gone.
