Sleight of Mind

You want to see it
Now you don’t
You need to do it
Now you won’t
There’s more distractions every day
To whittle every hour away
It’s sleight of mind -
With a flick of the wrist
We click away in tranced-out bliss
We’re slightly blind to all the twists
And oblivious to what’s amiss

Phones are on
Music blasting
Walking around
Talking to the air
Dancing in a crowd
As if no-one’s there
Loving madly
When we’re off our chops
Funerals are performed
In coffee shops
Soul-owner-occupier on a self-improvement drive
It’s a radioactive ‘half-a-life’ just trying to survive
We’re on the cusp of something
It’s coming can’t you see
All this self-destructive creation
Will end in misery
We can keep on sleight-of-minding
Pretending we don’t see
And prestigitate ourselves
Right into history.
