My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 Ep 9: Everything That Happens Before They Go Inside

I can only think of one other series offthe top of my head where the cliff hanger was the moment right before the “I’m going to take care of my loved one at their house” trope. This happened in Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro right before the eponymous Nagatoro’s “senpai” was about to drop off a few things at her house because she was sick from school. If memory serves, Nagatoro’s older sister catching him try to sneak into their house was the cliffhanger. This is an interesting move on the part of My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 since the trope is usually introduced and concludes during the same episode.

What’s interesting is that this current scenario in My Love Story… mirrors one of the earliest moments in the series when Akane drank too much and Yamada brought her into his apartment and let her sleep at his house. Now a very sick Akane has fallen over trying to ride her bike for some food and Yamada “just happens” to be there so he can take her home. (And that’s where the episode ends.)
