Yuri Is My Job! Ep 7: Messing With The Real Yuri
Yuri Is My Job! episode 7 clearly serves as a character arc for Sumika Chibana aka Tachibana in the cafe. Before now, Sumika was always the one who watched mischievously over the pages of a book but, as per her “character,” also acted as the group’s sensai. But she has now taken on a new role, and that is to mess with Kanoko — Hime’s friend from school who clearly wants to be in a relationship with her.
Like every other character in the anime, everything that Sumika does in this episode is both as Tachibana the character as well as Sumika the person. In this way, Sumika can mess with Kanoko on multiple levels except just one. How Sumika accomplishes this feat as Tachibana resonated with me the most, which isn’t surprising since I really enjoyed the little side story that involved the “play” the cafe’s waitresses put on for their customers.
In episode 7, the cafe launches its annual popularity contest where the cafe-goers vote for their favorite waitresses (the waitresses can vote as well). To increase participation, the waitresses are encouraged to talk about the whole event in character while serving their customers, and it’s here where my favorite side story resides…
