Paying The Price For Intellectual Laziness

For over 25 years people “in-the-know” have criticized the management of the global economic system. It’s been analyzed to a grotesquely detailed degree by experts across domains and across the globe. (Have you ever examined a parasite through a microscope?)

Meanwhile, “The People” have enjoyed their games, entertainments, and gadgets. However, most of us have happily ignored what’s been going on with “Our Systems” since the late 1970s, preferring only to get on with our rather fortunate lives. Let’s admit it, we haven’t held our governments and leaders to task, instead, we’ve allowed “The Establishment”, “The Government”, “The Elites”, “The Liberals of Every Stripe”, “The Conservative Business Barons” to do whatever they wanted to do to keep their profits flowing in. And this benefitted many of us. When “the-powers-that-be” have failed we’ve bailed them out. We’ve stood by like the lazy, ignorant people we are and let things go.

How bad is it you ask? Really, that bad? What happened to that bulletproof American optimism? This is truly the end of an era, unless you’re living in the Bay Area, or some want-to-be silicon valley project in some other diverse, prosperous and global city somewhere in the world.

And Atlas shrugged.

Now people from populist movements around the world are choosing, yet again, to listen to their “leaders” tell them what they want to hear.

“Something’s going on folks, and this I can tell you, it’s bad, it’s really bad. Bad! It’s rigged and it’s bad!”

Wouldn’t it be nice if we knew better? Will we ever really understand the world we live in? Perhaps it’s just too difficult a task. After all, we are wallowing in emotions and drowning in a sea of noise.

Perhaps our species can’t keep up with its inventiveness and overcome its more tribal nature.

Believe me, this I can tell you, we’ll all need wings to keep above the pile of garbage we are producing. Quite simply, the risks we face today are unprecedented and incomprehensible for the vast majority of us.

Band together people and look for that proverbial higher ground. The consequences of our inaction should be obvious now.

So it has to get worse before it can get better you say?

Trust in Government Is Collapsing Around the World

The trend helps explain Trump and Brexit. What’s next?

Common Sense 307 — Revenge of the Gangrenous Finger

Publish Date: Sun, 27 June 2016
Duration: 50 minutes — Size: 34.7mb

This show has a “chickens coming home to roost” feel to it, but maybe in a positive way. It was supposed to be about the recent British vote to leave the EU, but evolved into something larger. Surprise, surprise.
