Super-Tuesday proceeded as expected.
My point undermines the very idea of democracy, whereas a common explanation simply says that Trump’s rise is business as usual.
I understand that we can argue that if (and when) Trump is elected that “the people have spoken.” But this ignores the factors I have pointed out.
You have to first accept that Trump is an unqualified candidate that under normal circumstances would and should never be elected. And this is hard in a system like ours that allows the masses to vote. None-the-less, numerous people are making it, including the incumbent president, Larry Summers, House Republicans etc…
And second that under rational circumstances that no one would actually vote for Trump.
Then you need an explanation as to why he won, why people actually did vote for him, and this is what I have tried to provide here.
Now this effect happens all the time today because of our new media and information technologies and mostly, in the cases of Reagan and Schwarzenegger, for example, it is benign.
But it is not a democracy, it is the tyranny of majority and the rule of the mob.
