Thanks for this detailed comment. You know more than I do, for sure. I don’t think I lionise Athenian democracy in the article, I’m merely demonstrating how resoundly they were defeated by referring to the Thirty Tyrants. My understanding was that Socrates was critical of democracy himself and I show that the Athenian state wasn’t idyllic since it put the man himself to death.
