A 14 Year Old’s Perspective On Collecting
by Dov Ginzburg, 14
Below is a short blog written by an excellent young man who wants to share with you his collection, and why he loves collecting:
Hey everyone this is 14 year old Dov Ginzburg and I am currently interning for Collectionzz. I just wanted to tell you a little bit about my background, who I am, why I love collecting and a little about my collection.
Ever since I was very young I loved to play and watch sports. This summer I am actually playing baseball for the Long Island Junior Ducks, playing well and having a blast. I am a huge Yankees, Rangers and (unfortunately) a Knicks and Jets fan. I have a younger brother and sister, and I am just starting to get my brother into collecting as well.
I started collecting in about 2012. I was in the mall one day with my grandparents and they had to go fix something at the Apple store. At the time, Steiner Sports was right across from it and we went into the store to look around. I was amazed by everything that was there. They had everything from autographed baseball cards, boxing paintings, game used bats and so much more. We left the store and I was still mesmerized by everything that we saw. We went back about 2 weeks later because I wanted to buy something so badly. I remember something that caught my eye and it was a real work of art. It was an autographed Tyson Chandler painting.

It was my favorite item in the store by far. At the time, being it also happened to be my birthday, so I got it as a present. That sparked me to really fall in love with collecting and now this piece began to be the first of many more. I love collecting because you can have a piece of history forever and it also makes your room or man cave look pretty sick. It could also be very meaningful having a memorable piece of someone you idolize or look up to because it motivates you to do better.
My more recent items that I got were a Magic Johnson signed jersey, Brad Wings cleats, and Gary Sanchez’s autographed picture.

For me, it’s about having an appreciation for the player, and also looking for good deals and value in what I buy. If I had to say what the most exciting area of collecting in the sports world is, for the next 10 years, it would be items that show both art and sports together. The Chandler painting for example looks great on my wall and is means alot to me because it shows both art and sports. Also, NFL players’ painted cleats are another area that have the same feeling, and that’s something I expect is here to stay.
