Having returned recently from Nigeria, where I had an opportunity to speak with a number of innovative and energetic founders of new startups, I now see the tone of this section as a little too zero-sum. Steve, I agree with your view that the US should forment a start-up friendly environment. But I don’t see exciting movements in other areas, particularly in developing countries like Nigeria as “threats.” To the contrary, I believe that it might be a good idea for the US should to work with startups in other countries (perhaps clearing potential regulatory obstacles to access to our citizens?). We Americans have the huge advantage of hosting the biggest internet powers, and certainly have evolved the most sophisticated entreprenuerial ecosystem. A more internationally diverse startup scene will increase the general market and encourage more talent and innovation around the world. American companies will benefit from this.
