I’m amazed that no one is saying the obvious in this case. In 2015, Adam Laroche was one of the worst players in baseball. Playing 127 games, he hit only 12 home runs (remember he is a “power-hitting” first baseman) with a .207 batting average. He was paid $12 million and his 2016 contract is for the same. The White Sox can’t get rid of him.
So by kicking his kid out of the clubhouse (really, does it make sense for the kid to be there all the time? Doesn’t he have school?) and having Laroche resign, the Sox are freed of his contract! Even a mediocrity at first would be an improvement. The downside is that the players are all worked up, and that the White Sox had been trumpeting how upbeat the squad was after underachieving in 2015. But if they are professionals, they’ll get over it, and the team now has a better chance to make the playoffs.’
Of course, had Laroche hit 35 home runs last year, the Sox would have given Drake Eaton his own locker.
