Want to be more productive by working on multiple monitors? If you are a busy person handling multiple tasks simultaneously, probably sometimes you would have felt that multiple monitors would have helped you instead of toggling between two screens on the same monitor. Do not fret too much. It is very easy to set up multiple monitor with the built-in support from Windows without installing any additional third-party software. Thankfully, multi-tasking has been made very easy now.

Preliminary Step

As a first step, you should make sure that you have all the power cables, video or audio cables, if you so desire — -viz VGA, DVI, HDMI or Display Port cable. A cursory reading of your computer manual will help you to identify the location of a specific port as well as cable connections.

Display Mode

If you are connecting the power/other cables properly, your computer will detect other monitor automatically.

When you press Windows + P buttons, a sidebar will appear displaying four options to choose from. Let’s quickly understand what each display signifies:

→ PC Screen only: This is meant for using only the primary monitor and additional monitors would be black.

→ Duplicate: This option allows you to display the same image on all the monitors. It is ideal when you are using the computer for any presentation when the image of a primary monitor is replicated on all the monitors.

→ Extend: You will have an extended desktop offering you additional screen for multi-tasking. In other words, you are getting an additional PC screen.

→ Second Screen only: The primary monitor display is turned off and you can work on the secondary display screen.

Display Settings Configuration

Gain access to display section on the control panel and comply with the following in sequence.

1. Right-click anywhere on the desktop

2. Click on “Display Settings

3. Click “Identify”. This would identify the corresponding displays — Primary monitor is 1.

4. You can re-arrange the displays by selecting and dragging the numbered box.

5. By using the scaling slider, you can make the text and other contents larger (in case you are working with higher resolutions)

6. The display orientation can also be altered by choosing between “Landscape” or “Portrait

7. You can also switch display modes with multiple display options.

In case you desire to adjust the screen temperature depending on the day/night time, you can adjust by using the Windows Night light feature.

Optional Settings

You can also tweak the color management option if you are keen on it:

1. Choose Color Calibration to pop up the Windows calibration wizard

2. You can calibrate brightness, color, contrast, etc. by following the wizard

3. You can further configure the Related Setting if you can follow the links

Taskbar Settings

If you so desire to hide the apps with their names on multiple or duplicate monitor, you can opt for it with some simple steps:

1. Right-click the Taskbar

2. Choose Settings

3. Scroll down to Multiple Displays

4. Toggle show Taskbar on all displays
