I graduated from law school in mid-2012 and spent the next 6 years or so practicing criminal law, mostly as a Crown Attorney (prosecutor) in northern Canada. By 2016 I was already starting to burn out. By 2018, I’d had enough. I started looking for a way out. A fresh start. Something new. I started an MBA program as I searched for something meaningful to work on. As luck would have it, my wife took a job in - of all places - Bermuda. So, in January of 2019…off we went. It turned out there wasn't much demand in Bermuda for rural criminal lawyers more accustomed to juggling absurd caseloads than litigating jury trials. Which was fine. I didn’t want to practice law anymore anyway. And then I stumbled back-asswards into copy and content writing. It was a revelation. I was doing work that my clients actually wanted and appreciated. People said please and thank you. It even paid better than criminal law. Now, whenever I’m not writing copy for my clients, I’m writing content for working professionals interested in improving their careers – and their lives – by writing online.
