“I’m a software engineer and I want to work on solving climate change — where do I start?”

A few months ago I soft-launched ClimateTechList to help answer this question, primarily for my friends and network. At the time, I wanted to get a v0 out quickly, so I used no-code tools to build the site. It didn’t look the most polished….

…but the site has gotten more traction than expected — thousands of visitors and at least two engineers found jobs at ClimateTechList companies as a result

I recently redesigned the website from scratch (not using no-code, more on that in a subsequent post) to be more usable and have more content, and now have a few dozen curated companies on the site.

Every company on ClimateTechList.com has been assessed for the following:

  1. High potential impact on reducing greenhouse gases
  2. High growth potential (which results in high potential GHG impact)
  3. Software is mission-critical to the company, even if the company isn’t a pure software company

More on our methodology here.

On the new site, each company has its own page, and for some companies, complete with detailed notes from company interviews I conducted, and photos of the product and team.

In addition, we have several blog post resources, such as this primer for those new to climate tech (the most popular blog post so far), this article about software engineering career growth, and this article about the bits vs atoms framework for thinking about climate tech sectors.
