The Barcelona Trip | Part 3
Ok… First let me get this out of the way, because I know people aren’t gonna like what I’m about to say.
My favorite part of the Barcelona Trip?
It wasn’t Barcelona
Huh? What do you mean? How can the best part of the “Barcelona” Trip not be “Barcelona”!?!
I don’t really know what you want me to say. It just wasn’t. Yes, Barcelona was awesome and I had a great time, but… to be honest it came second fiddle to the final act of the trip.
My favorite part of the trip?
Well, that’s easy. It was Montserrat. Yes, Yes, I know it’s not the answer you were looking for, but it’s the truth. Or at least for me it was. Everyone’s different and everyone looking for different things. For me, Montserrat was the best part and the perfect end to the trip.
What the hell is a Montserrat?!?
Montserrat is a small mountain range, located just outside Barcelona, that has an unbelievable monastery that overlooks the entire area.
We were on a time crunch, so we drove up the mountain, but you can hike to the top(Which would probably be an awesome hike).
Me and my friends woke up at our airbnb, in Barcelona, around 11am and were hoping to make it back to Madrid by around 7pm (Spoiler Alert: We didn’t make it. Not even close, really…).
We figured we could drive up to Montserrat, spend a couple hours checking it out, and then rush back home to get ready for work the next day. But really, how often do things go “according to plan”?
We set off from the city a little past 12 and if I remember correctly, by the time we reached the top of the mountain it was about 1:30.
We took a second to soak it all in, when we arrived.
But after we took that second, reality came rushing back and we realized we needed to eat something before we all passed the eff out.
Where did we eat?
Where do you think?
The Montserrat Buffet, of course(I know, I know, my Americaness is showing, but how can you turn down a buffet).
The food at the buffet was whatever to be honest. Nothing special. Not particularly good, but not particularly bad.
The view at the buffet was awesome!
If you’ve read any of my other posts, you know I’m a sucker for a good view. And this view, this view was a sight to see. In fact, I would say it’s hands down the best view I’ve ever seen at a buffet.
Well Steve, I don’t think most buffets are usually known for their views(or the “quality” of their food).
Ok fine, you have me there, but still. It was amazing.
After we had our fill, we spent a couple hours just roaming around the area. It’s not particularly big here, but it was unbelievably beautiful. I really enjoyed seeing everything. And pair the views with the fresh mountain air, you have the perfect end to an amazing trip.
All good things must come to an end.
We got in our car sometime around 4, began our descent down the mountain, and continued our journey home.
Remember when I said we were aiming to get back around 7pm? That didn’t happen. Not by a long shot.
What time did we get back to Madrid?
Try about 10pm. I didn’t get into my apartment until about 10:45pm. And my head didn't hit the pillow until 1am.
But it’s not so bad.
I may have only gotten 6 hours of sleep, before work(After 4 days of traveling), but it was all worth it. This was one of the best trips I’ve ever had. And if I could, I would do it all over again.
All except maybe the mold infested airbnb. I probably wouldn’t stay there again, given the choice.
But everything else?
Yes, most definitely.
