To quote you again Rama — ‘Why would you wish Amma would not give chocolates away, before you would wish we would not kill 40 million turkeys for Thanksgiving? And the number of lambs and pigs and other animals killed for Easter or Christmas? Why go wishing for a tiny thing in some obscure corner to be changed, when there are enormous things right in front of you that need to regretted?’ —
I can not think of a single reason why.
Even Amma’s great influence over so many people pales into insignificance compared to the enormous suffering you mentioned above.
I only found out about Amma and the milk chocolates on your blog.
Naturally for someone trying to live a vegan lifestyle I would prefer any person who has influence, in any sphere of life, not to be seen using of animals products.
Spiritual teachers West and East, New age and ancient are no longer, on the whole, examples to me of how to live a vegan life style.I appreciate many things about various traditions and great teachers but in this area I look else where. Like your post on nvc and veganism. That I find inspiring. Amma and the chocolate box, is a ‘ tiny thing in some obscure corner ‘ that some Westerns may find more important in their world.
Here I am in agreement with your position if it is ‘clean up your own backyard first’ before picking minor battles with someone else about their tradition.
Thank you for getting back so quickly.I am still reading the nvc article and feel I have much to learn from using that model.I also brought the book you mentioned by Sherry Colb and listened to some podcasts by her which I found helpful and clear.
