Wow, Jonah. This is an amazing piece on many levels. I’d like to link to it in my next newsletter as a follow-up to the last newsletter with the “Seniors Speak” theme.
What you’ve said is important on many levels but two seem particularly significant to me.
- You said it yourself about yourself.
- You took on the issue of latent racism at a time in our country’s history when many formerly latent racists now have permission to be overt racists.
And yet, not a pol or a pundit has discussed this issue with the same candor and intellectual honesty that you have here.
And I wonder why???????
What is it about you and your experience of life that has developed not just into a talent for self-analysis but also a willingness to share it publicly — and in this case globally — through writing?
This is a question I need to have at least one answer to because it’s the main reason I wrote my book: I want young adults to find their voices and their sense of agency through expressions of the written word.
I realize mow that to do this well that I need the help of a few young adults like you to understand how this talent for self-reflection and commitment to intellectual honesty arises.
Thanks,
Steve
