Jay, Nice Article. In my 48 years, I have narrowed it down to 4 types. 1. Those that see deep but not broad. 2. Those that see broad but not deep. 3. Those that see both 4. Those that see neither. When you breakdown the population, you find that the vast majority of people fall into category 4. These are people that can only move from A to B to C… They can’t see Z beyond Y. Some people can see A to B to C, and Alpha to Beta to Gamma. These are your tacticians. Some can see Z from A, but never even see Alpha at all. And the very rare (about 5%) can see A to Z while also seeing Alpha to Zeta. Meyers Briggs assessments do a good job at breaking this down as well. Because the vast majority fall within category 4, they look for others to look after them, i.e government, educators, employers, etc. When it comes to matters of scientific faith (evidence without proven scientific method), it’s important to recognize that 50% of the population will not fully grasp it, as with any faith, a leap needs to be made from A to Z. 20% will be stuck in a single mode of thought, the other 20% will be all over the board without a tangible solution, and 5% won’t care. So it’s down to the 5% whose vision is clear. Example: Wind, hydro and Solar are awesome free sources of energy. Imagine a world with free sources of energy. Well, also then imagine a world with about 40% of its land mass devoted to infrastructure, and all natural fresh water sources altered. how does this affect the wildlife and environment? Think beyond the obvious solution, and always look to Z as best you can. By the way, most global climate change alarmists fall within category 1. They see a future, but don’t understand how to implement a real solution. They don’t see Alpha. They are stuck trying to convince the 50% of the population that it’s real. I will tell you that it’s irrelevant. A to Z is the Climate. Alpha to Zeta is National Defense. Ha to Nun is Religion. Zayin to Sin is the economy. Find the commonality between these things, and drive them to a common end result. For example when talking to your religious doubters tell them… you know, the bible says the world will end in a fiery mess and chaos due to the sins of man. Maybe you should consider that perhaps this is the beginning of the end as described by Jesus. Or, perhaps instead of complaining about the defense budget, ask congress to allocate more of the defense spending to alternative fuel initiatives that will guarantee the long term viability of our military, reduce costs, revitalize the military complex, and minimize the amount of resources we have abroad. Almost every conservative in the US would think this was a great idea. I mean these are the people that gave us the internet, cell phones, jet planes etc. The beauty of this? You can make sustainable change, protect US interests, increase employment, gain GNP through tech transfer, and you never once had to convince anyone that climate change is real. The reality? we need a wide array of home grown resources to sustain America and lead by example. The Parris Accord was made for the myopics. It is a symbolic rag with no true means to affect an end result, and no guarantees that, even if everyone complied, any meaningful change will be made. This is the time we need to start acting locally, and thinking globally. America needs to take the lead in sustainable energy and food production.
