Egg Shells

by m.s.wardrip

Why couldn’t I have known?
I didn’t interpret her signs.
She tried to tell me in her own way.
I wandered, stumbling, unaligned.

She wanted a romance,
She got one too!
She left me in a cloudy dust,
Left me like a fool.

She wanted a baby,
She got one too,
A fine little fellow,
I feel so used.

The eggs were the sign,
She took to snack on,
Now, just broken shells,
And life goes on.

If a girl shows me an egg,
I’ll be on my knees,
Let me be the daddy, honey!
We’ll please both our needs.
