What I learned not drinking for two years

I’m on a break too — a year and a half since I last got drunk with a few glasses scattered between months-long dry periods. And I feel so much better.

Life and emotions have been much easier to manage. No more 3-day hangovers. Plus, getting in shape for the first time ever feels great. It is amazing what you learn about yourself and your relationships.

Alcohol and drugs can be like shield for some people. It protects them from failure in life and the embarrassment that they predict will follow. But, an appreciation of our failures is needed for us to grow into the people we aspire to become.

When I removed my shield, I learned that I am much better equipped to manage these challenges than I expected. at 34, I have “partied” enough in my life — It’s time to create a fulfilled life.

So, congrats on your failures and your successes.

Keep kicking ass,

Stewart
