Capacity in Community Organizations: Challenging the Helpfulness of the UW

I find it very interesting that an institution the size of UW, with all the years it has been in existence does not have a centralized coordinator/department that pairs Community Organizations with the students looking for opportunities to volunteer. Maybe an office staffed with student volunteers pursuing a degree in Non-Profit Leadership or Community Organization could provide the necessary link to connect the two. With students, senior thru freshman, participating it would have year to year continuity and develop relationships. That would enhance the effectiveness of efforts both for the student volunteer and the organization being supported, therefore increasing the overall benefit to the recipient, which should be the ultimate goal, else the assistance be in vain.
