The LORD is a jealous and avenging God; the LORD is avenging and wrathful; the LORD takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies.
When I was younger I heard about “an angry God”, or “a fire and brimstone God.” It wasn’t until I went to Bible college and read and studied some of the prophetic books of the Bible, that I came to the realization of what those people were talking about. In Ezekiel 5, God says that He will execute judgments among them, even to the point of family turning on each other. This is a very frightening picture not just to the people that call themselves christians but to the rest of the world that this may or may not be their first time hearing language like this.
With more studying and more learning about these judgement type proclamations given by God a new light was lit inside my head. If God is able to be angry, isn’t He also able to express or exhibit other emotions? He shows frustration each time Israel turns away from Him and he calls them back to repentance, He shows compassion by sparing Nineveh, He shows sadness when Lazarus, whom He loves has died, and He shows jealousy when he commands that we only worship Him.
Why do we believe that God is an angry God but not a jealous God? How can He exhibit one emotion but not another? It is NOT possible. God is jealous for your LOVE, God is jealous for your TRUST, God is jealous for your WORSHIP. God is jealous for YOU.
