Nice article. I do have a few corrections: Old Norse and Icelandic “flower” is spelled blóm. Persia was the first place tulips were cultivated, but they originated on the west slope of the Himalayas.

I’d also add heliotrope, a word of Greek origin with the same “sun-turning” meaning, but describing a different flower, as well as a surveying instrument.
