Actually it is the other way round: Hysteria and the medical procedure hysterectomy is named after the ancient Greek word hysteria meaning uterus. Medical terms often originate from ancient Greek words, not only Latin. So if we should find a new, not demeaning word for anything, it should be for hysteria, which is basically saying ‘a uterus makes you excessively emotional aka crazy’.
