Creating reports start from the data connection: 1. Create a connection to the data source; 2. Data sources are created on the base of this connection; 3. Using the data sources, the report is designed.

Many questions arise when you create a connection to the data source. Especially, when you need to specify the connection string. In fact, in all report designers, there are connection string templates. The most extended ones are shown below:

*SQL Server: “Server=myServerAddress;Database=myDataBase;User Id=myUsername; Password=myPassword;”

*SQL Server Compact “Data Source=MyData.sdf;Persist Security Info=False;”

*SQLBase “DataSource=myServerAddress;UserId=myUsername;Password=myPassword;”

*MySQL “Server=myServerAddress;Database=myDataBase;Uid=myUsername;Pwd=myPassword;”

*Oracle “Data Source=MyOracleDB;Integrated Security=yes;”

*PostgreSQL “User ID=root;Password=myPassword;Host=localhost;Port=5432;Database=myDataBase; Pooling=true;Min Pool Size=0;Max Pool Size=100;Connection Lifetime=0;”

*Firebird “User=SYSDBA;Password=masterkey;Database=SampleDatabase.fdb;DataSource=localhost; Port=3050;Dialect=3;Charset=NONE;Role=;Connection lifetime=15;Pooling=true; MinPoolSize=0;MaxPoolSize=50;Packet Size=8192;ServerType=0;”

*OData XML “URL=http://dataService;" ATOM OData “URL=http://dataService;Data Format=ATOM;” JSON OData “URL=http://dataService;Data Format=JSON;”
