I’ve met some really interesting people when travelling alone, from a UN ambassador of the Sami to the mayor of a small town in Austria (some also not so great; an American pilot that asked me along with him to pick up young prostitutes). I’ve been invited for dinner at the houses of strangers, and introduced to great bars I never would have known about. By nature I’m wary of meeting new people, but as a solo traveller have had to get used to it, and I’m very glad I did. You realise that people are generally nicer than you might think.
