WhatsApp Takes a Step Forward in User Privacy with New Security Tools

WhatsApp, one of the most popular messaging apps in the world, has rolled out new privacy tools to combat hacking attempts and safeguard users’ accounts. The Facebook-owned app has introduced two-factor authentication and an end-to-end encryption feature to make it harder for cybercriminals to hack into users’ accounts.

Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication is an additional layer of security that requires users to provide two forms of identification to access their account. This can include something you know, such as a password or PIN, and something you have, such as a fingerprint or security key. With two-factor authentication, even if a hacker manages to obtain your password, they would still need the second form of identification to access your account.

To enable two-factor authentication on WhatsApp, users can go to Settings > Account > Two-step verification > Enable. They will be prompted to enter a six-digit passcode that will be required to access their account. Users will also have the option to provide an email address that can be used to reset the passcode if they forget it.
