If a flight crew can turn an airplane around for another flight in half an hour, you’d think Amtrak could pump the poopers and freshen things up during a stop. I’d gladly wait an extra half hour for servicing. However, Amtrak is basically a state-sponsored enterprise and since we all “own” it, nobody’s willing to put that much money into it. I’m not sure it’s viable as a private enterprise because the infrastructure is a money pit and nobody would pay the “real” cost of travel when you can get where you want to go by air in a few hours, enduring a bit of light groping and a bag of peanuts.
