Clockwork Watch — When audience engagement is put above commercial sense.

Yomi Ayeni is an award winning Transmedia creator, producer, filmmaker, and storyteller.

His current project — Clockwork Watch is a multi-cultural retro-futurist Steampunk / Victoriana story told across graphic novels, interactive theatre, online, and film. The project has so far spawned 8 graphic novels, immersive live events and exhibitions at the Royal Observatory, Scottsdale Civic Library (Arizona), Latitude Festival (UK), National Maritime Museum, The Asylum in Lincoln, as well as a fictional newspaper.

Yomi lectures Transmedia Storytelling at the Royal College of Arts, and believes mapping stories to everyday life, creates experiences that bring audiences closer to the heart of a narrative. He’s developed several reality TV formats, including Global E-Missions (ITV), winner of the 2002 Broadcast Award for “Best Use of New Media”.

His 2009 project “Breathe” was one of the first interactive participatory stories to explore how an ongoing narrative offered the audience a chance to become characters in a film, and help solve a fictional murder mystery. He is currently writing a sequel, which he hopes to produce in 2019/2020.

A chat about the trials and tribulations of bringing a dream to life. Clockwork Watch has been a compromise from the start. Initially it was going to be a film, but it failed to materialise, so it became a graphic novel, and promised to have two siblings, and one live immersive launch event.

10 years later, it has spawned 10 books, 7 immersive events, a partnership with several international cultural institutions, it even had its own beer, won two cultural awards, yet it’s still self-published on a shoestring.

Hosted in unique locations, from the arts-district of DTLA to a stunning villa in the Malibu hills, there are no conference rooms, no formal presentations, no panels.
There are no attendees, only participating guests & friends sharing stories and experiences, knowledge, expertise and insight to inspire fresh perspectives, new ideas and an ongoing intellectual community around story, experience design & emotional design.
