The Medium is the Message
Ev Williams wants to get back to building relationships through blogging and newsletters
I started my first blog, Message from Edge City, on a new service called Convey.com in August 2000. Over the next five years or so, I moved the blog (with various name changes) to Blogger (founded by Ev Williams of Medium), Movable Type, Typepad, Word Press, and Tumblr.
But what many don’t know is that before I blogged I basically made a living publishing a newsletter — Business Process Strategies — from 1994 until selling it to John Wiley and Sons in 1999. Message from Edge City started as an e-zine in late 1999 before I shifted to a blog format on Convey. I have always thought like a newsletter writer. And so, I have always hoped for a combination platform for blogging and newslettering.
It looks like Medium is becoming that platform.
I have always been interested in Medium, and I have tried to move my blogging there. It has been an incomplete process, principally because Medium has waffled on what the platform is supposed to be and for who. Now it looks like the pieces are falling to place so I can completely move here.
