This is an interesting statement and useful for thinking about individual parent-child relationships, but wouldn’t you agree that the continuity of the human species depends on procreation? Probably few individuals would say, “I have to have children for the sake of my species,” but if we weren’t making babies, we would die out quickly. The expressed reasons for having babies may be flawed and not “love,” but could it be that they are the rationalization of the instinctual impulse to reproduce?
