The Morality of Surge Pricing
Russ Roberts

In my experience with Uber in Dallas, I found that during “surge” events taxi drivers turn into entrepreneurs — charging up to 400% more for fares off the meter and telling you to f*** off if you don’t like it. A police officer was standing right next to me and I said, “did you hear that?” He said, “call the taxi company and complain…not my job to police taxi fares.” The moral of the story? At least Uber drivers can’t go off meter.
