The Flannan Isles, located in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, have long been known for their treacherous weather conditions and rocky terrain. However, it was not the elements that made these islands famous. Instead, it was the mysterious disappearance of the three lighthouse keepers in 1900 that has captured the imagination of people for over a century.

The Flannan Isles Lighthouse

Built in 1899, the Flannan Isles Lighthouse was designed to provide a guiding light to passing ships in the rough waters of the North Atlantic. Located on Eilean Mòr, the largest of the Flannan Isles, the lighthouse was staffed by three keepers who worked in six-week shifts to keep the light burning.

The Disappearance
