I completely agree, there is a kind of mania with developers trying to learn as many new bits of software as possible, even when that’s only a skin-deep quick-tutorial-plus-todo-app-demo experience.

Personally I think web developers should be valued based on their ability to learn (as opposed to the list of tech they claim to know) and their ability to solve problems in efficient but sustainable ways.

Like Viral Patel I think you really build knowledge and grow as an engineer when you practice hard at a handful of skills.
