Key Experts, Activists and Lawmakers Confirmed for Annual Founder’s Day Event Will Discuss Challenges, Ideas
(PHILADELPHIA, PA) — Today, WURD Radio (96.1FM / 900AM / WURDRadio.com / WURDApp), the only African American owned and operated talk radio station in Pennsylvania, and one of a few in the country, announced its final line-up of WURD personalities, experts, thought leaders and policymakers who will participate in today’s Annual Founder’s Day (Friday, August 25, 2017 at 9:00am — 7pm ET) at the Central Branch Of The Free Library Of Philadelphia in the Skyline Room, 1901 Vine Street in Philadelphia, PA.
The event will celebrate the life, legacy and mission of the late Walter P. Lomax, Jr., MD, the renowned philanthropist, physician, and entrepreneur who purchased WURD Radio in 2003. Live audience panel discussions will be broadcast in real-time on 96.1FM and 900AM in the Philadelphia metro area and online or via App to a national audience. These conversations will cover a number of prominent topics and themes affecting the Black community, including Black media, politics, policymaking, economics, education and health. Panels to note include:
1pm — 2:30pm ET: Healers’ Roundtable (moderated by WURD President/CEO Sara Lomax-Reese)
During this moment of deep national crisis, mind and spiritual healing are critical for the Black community. A discussion focusing on healing historic and current trauma.

2:30pm — 4pm ET: The State of Black Media in the Age of Trump (moderated by former WURD Host Nick Taliaferro)
The birth of Black media was precipitated by crisis and a need for Black voices and perspective. What’s the purpose for Black media now?

4pm- 7pm ET: The Solutions Session Special Friday Edition of “Reality Check” w/ Charles Ellison
These are anxious times, prompting a tendency to focus more on the problems than the solutions. An interactive discussion will explore available options and how to map a path forward for the community.

Founder’s Day is open to the public. Organizers anticipate a significant turnout of WURD listeners, as well as the appearance of numerous well-known influentials, elected officials, thoughts leaders, community advocates and media personalities in the Greater Philadelphia area and beyond.
Activities will kick off at 7am ET with a live broadcast of “Wake Up With WURD” w/ host Solomon Jones. Doors will then open at 9am ET. Attendees are welcome to join LIVE broadcast discussions.
