Well said Stan Grant. Government Offices and the Board Rooms of Australia, have Aboriginal Art in them, it’s like it’s compulsory. I often wonder what they think that actually signifies? Another token gesture, what else? I’m a white Aussie, educated in the 60’s/70’s, so I did learn about the previous non-Indigenous explorers, before Cook. When I see any Aboriginal Art or images, I get that instant feeling of “home”, Australia. I often think surely other white people feel the same? Those images are part of my DNA in being an Australian. And they come from the First People, my fellow citizens. I know in life that facing things that may give pain is often the healing path to take. So I wish Australians could just call a spade a spade. What happened happened. The stories need to be told and become an open part of our narrative. I acknowledge and regret the atrocities committed in the past and the pain felt by Aboriginal people today . I freely accept any changes in this country that this statement leads to, because it can only ultimately result in healing. There, it can be said. By a white person. Again and again and again.
