And they do own the world. How? For they have learned to go beyond their own borders and most importantly their own FEARS, Amber. That’s the problem with America, its very xenophobic, yet they are culture stealers to no end.
Xenophobia is the fear and distrust of that which is perceived to be foreign or strange.[1][2] Xenophobia can manifest itself in many ways involving the relations and perceptions of an ingroup towards an outgroup, including a fear of losing identity, suspicion of its activities, aggression, and desire to eliminate its presence to secure a presumed purity.[3] Xenophobia can also be exhibited in the form of an “uncritical exaltation of another culture” in which a culture is ascribed “an unreal, stereotyped and exotic quality”.
They will adopt others cultural norms as their own, and never give credit where credit is due. People like Meg will give their all to listen and learn, to work towards a peaceful resolution between the different races. She fully understands the dynamics of systemic and institutional racism that plagues our country.
As for Ezinne, I have read her for over two years. As to why she does what she does, I don’t question it. As a POC, I fully respect her personhood to her truth. Her experiences are as valid as yours or mine. My racist experiences with those who want me to “ go back to where I came from” is nothing compared to the everyday fear she must face, especially in today’s political climate. President Trump has catered to the white supremacists of this country and because of Charlottesville and now the pardoning of Joe Asshole ( that’s what he is) he has fully showed his EXPLICIT bias.
I too, believe that our course as a country is multiculturalism. However, as for those who are “ entrenched” don’t expect too much from them. I’m sure you have noticed just by the certain responses who is willing to work with others in a peaceful manner. Multiculturalism is a threat to their identity, their WHITE identity. I do know that for those who scream that multiculturalism is bad for America, these individuals will certainly participate in keeping it around.
They will still continue to patronize Asian businesses, filling their guts with sweet and sour chicken and fried rice, whilst complaining about too many “ guks” in the neighborhood, watching their wives get their nails and pedicures done by Koreans, playing the latest rap music in their 4x4 jacked up trucks, celebrating Cinco De Mayo, getting shitfaced at the local bar for the sake of another drinking holiday.
In being a SJW, this journey is fraught with disappointment. But if you can change one person’s mind, then your journey was worth it. Like Dennett said , her reading Ezinne reminded her just how far we have to go. She appreciated her words and her truth.
