I’m always confused by the comment that trigger warnings stop discourse: I’ve never seen that. What happens when you add a trigger warning that ends discourse? Are people not allowed to talk?

Usually I see the trigger warning used to give a ‘heads-up’ to the audience, who then talk about the issue with some knowledge of what’s going to be discussed before they walk into it. So, to me, they seem like simple meta data — like a movie rating — and I am always confused when I read that they end conversations. Do you mind sharing some concrete examples, so I can try to understand? Thank you!
