How times have changed. 18 year ago, I worked for a dot-com startup; to solve a problem I had, I wrote a Python script which would telnet in to a server and run commands (this was before SSH was standard).

My boss’s reaction: “Why are you using this funny language, what is it called, Python?”

“Because Python has the ability to automatically interact remotely when going to another server with telnet.”

“Well, you can’t use this Python thing. You need to use only standard tools.”

It took me another decade before I started using Python professionally.

As for that company, they under and were bought out within a couple of years; the company which bought them out in turn went under about a decade ago.
