Multi Output Control Voltage Tools for Live 10

The Max 8 and Live 10 public beta period has started, and among the new features is support for multi-channel output for maxforlive devices.

Surround panning might be the first application of this the new ability within Live’s ’aggressively stereo’ workflow. Indeed, there is already a very nice multi-format panner. I’m going to guess Robert Henke is the driving force behind this new capability.

My first thought was control voltage generation. If you’re limited to a stereo output, at best, a single MIDI to control voltage device can produce two signals. I’ve been using an array of devices spread over multiple channels, and I do enjoy the ala carte approach to designing my control voltage generation systems, it does become unwieldy and there are some limitations.

This is a work in progress, mainly because I have many ideas for additional multi output CV devices, but I’ve released three devices that are worth mentioning.

The first device is an advanced MIDI to CV converter. It supports eight channels of output: 1v/oct, gate, velocity, trigger, aftertouch and three assignable control change sources.

The second device produces eight channels of gates from dedicated MIDI notes (hint: this works great with a drum sequencer)

The third device produces four channels of CV from live automation or monome arc.

These devices are available at my github. There is a repository just for Live 10 devices.
