Well, that’s a distinct issue, really, which I did approach over here. For what’s it worth, I don’t think most people are even thinking through the gender/sexual orientation issue at all, though. The arguments offered have primarily been rooted in fear of non-existent situations. The individuals championing these changes make arguments like that, but can point to no data to back up the idea that CIS women are endangered (e.g. a history of such incidents). The fact is these laws apparently weren’t even needed for decades and yet suddenly a need springs up. With zero incidents occurring to justify the change. Zero. Odd, to say the least. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the recent passage of marriage equality….
