Nicki Minaj Hits Twitter, Says Hip Hop Is A Sexiest Genre

Rapper Nicki Minaj has seen her share of the limelight, recently surpassing Aretha Franklin‘s record for most Billboard Hot 100 hits, making her one of the most successful rappers in hip-hop history. Still though with reaching a milestone such as that, Nicki Minaj feels she doesn’t receive the respect most male counterparts receive in the industry.

On Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 25) Minaj took to Twitter to voice her opinion on sexism in Hip Hop. The Twitter rant was fueled by a tweet from rapper Russ (“What They Want”), who uploaded a short clip from his Rap Radar interview where he told the show, “You know who else people really need to start putting respect on is Nicki Minaj — period.” He added that Minaj “birthed so many females” and her style has influenced a lot of artists who came after her.

The “No Frauds” rapper later heard of the Russ interview, thanked him and elaborated more on the rappers point. “In any field, women must work TWICE as hard to even get HALF the respect her male counterparts get. When does this stop?”.

To drop the mic on her Twitter rant she even quoted a Tweet from Kendrick Lamar where he said, “Just realized. Moe n — az hate nicki minaj than woman do. #yallniggazisreallypausewhenithinkaboutit.” She added that the tweet even though seven years old is still relevant today and in order for her to get recognition, she’d had to dress like a man.
