FREEDOM

We’re born unchained. Irrespective of our country, state, nationality, race, religion, creed, mountains, hills, plains, coasts or reef, earth or mars, the Milky Way or anyway. As we take birth we are blessed upon with freedom. Freedom is our birthright. Soon as we grow, learning about society, customs, rites, rituals, taboos, laws, etc. which has been laid down to bring harmony and prevent chaos, as they say it, we step into actualizing limitations, boundaries, line of control and so many such things which ultimately creates an envelope around us. Our lifestyle, habits, ideas and even the extent of thinking is then limited to this envelope. Isn’t it an irony that even the
citizens of the first world countries may not feel independent at all?

When India was a British colony, it is a solid truth that Indians were ruled by British. We fought against them for our freedom. Legends of martyrs, slogans of freedom fighters, their movements and the history that remains, only tell us that it is always in our will to achieve freedom and become independent. It holds true for every moment of our life. Whether it was Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Netaji or Azad, they all manifested freedom in themselves. They lived under the rule of the British Government but their thoughts, principles, objectives were free. They did what they felt was appropriate. In 1947, the independence we achieved is a result of nothing but collective efforts of independent minds.

Observe a child, it can think just anything. Children don’t care about what is good or evil, frame of possibilities, feasibilities and express every emotion that they feel. Then look at any average man on earth, he will try to act more polite, repress his emotions and think of constrained possibilities or results of his actions and surprisingly ends up doing nothing. We become covert and even more, as we grow old. Man can just not be deceiving to the world but also to himself. On the other hand artists such as poets, musicians, novelists, painters, have only become masters of their field when they expressed everything with freedom of thoughts. Lovers and their love stories became greatest to be known only when they were overt in expressing their love. Even time can’t bound their greatness. A relationship of love binds two people, doesn’t bounds them. It is false as people interpret that their freedom is carried away in such cases. Rather it provides freedom to express your emotions overtly in the society.

It is a general scenario in literacy of India that children opt a career in a direction constrained to security of jobs in future. They become partly ignorant to many other career options that would have favored them in bringing out their real selves. Many students in such way become deluded and dissuade themselves in exercising freedom of choice in their career. Girls in so many ways dissuade themselves from many things which they only wish they could. They repress most of their wishes all their life just thinking they have limitations for their respective gender.

Life itself is independent of birth and death. It is no less than a truth that freedom is already with us. Nothing can rule us. We let them bound us, make us dependent. Freedom lies in following your heart. Freedom lies in knowledge. Freedom lies in flow of thoughts and we are product of our own thoughts. Freedom is within, manifest it and you will achieve it.
