San Diego Padres
The San Diego Padres were founded as an expansion franchise in 1969 along with the Montreal Expos, Seattle Pilots, and Kansas City Royals. They are located in San Diego, California, and play at Petco Park. The Padres are managed by Mike Schildt and play in the National League West Division along with the Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Giants, and Rockies. They have won 5 division titles (1984, 1996, 1998, 2005, 2006), 2 Wild Cards (2020, 2022), and 2 NL pennants (1984, 1998). The Padres appeared in 2 World Series facing the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees. The Padres have 5 retired numbers which are 6, 19, 31, 35, and 51. The Padres have 1 no-hitter which was thrown by Joe Musgrove vs the Texas Rangers in 2021. The Padres primary colors are brown, gold, and white. The Padres wear 5 different jerseys including a City Connect jersey. The teams mascot is a Swinging Friar.
Current stars of the team include Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., Xander Bogaerts, and Ha-seong Kim . Former Padres greats include Tony Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman, Adrian Gonzalez, and Dave Winfield. The Padres best regular season record was during the 1998 season when they went 98–64 and their worst regular season record was in their inaugural season in 1969 when they finished 50–112.
Petco Park is located in downtown San Diego right next to the Gaslamp Quarter. The stadium was built around the Western Metal Supply Company building which is now a staple of Petco Park. Petco Park was opened in 2004 and saw great success from the team in its first couple of years. The Padres spring training facility is located in Peoria, Arizona at the Peoria Sports Complex which they share with the Seattle Mariners.
