the circle of life: a poem in dialogue
by matthew struhar
the house:
we passed it
so the Senate could improve it
the senate:
we didn’t improve it,
but we passed it
so that conference may address it
the conference committee:
we didn’t address it,
but we passed it
so then Congress could recommit it
the congress:
we didn’t recommit it,
but we passed it
now the president will sign it
the president:
i signed it, because i alone can fix it
because when you’re a star they let you do it
grab ’em by the pocket
deprive ’em of their wallet
and it’ll be great, cuz it’s called management
anyway talk to Price about it
the department of health and human services:
we couldn’t sensibly manage it,
even after notice and comment
but we enforced it
now the Republicans must correct it
the republicans:
we didn’t correct it
and now we lost the House and Senate
hey, maybe the Democrats will fix it
the democrats:
we fixed it
it’s now 2026 — SHIT!
Can we please do something about the climate?
the republican donor base:
you may have fixed it
but now we’ve bought the government
and we’re going to repeal and replace it
Again and again, damn it
