This Google NGram shows historical usage trends for the word “innovation.” The word was increasingly used after World War II, with the steepest period of increase in the 1960s and 1990s. Sadly, the NGram tool only goes up to 2008, so we can’t get a sense of whether use of the word has increased, decreased, or plateaued since then.
