Caitlin, Is CounterPunch going to give you the chance to respond to those hit pieces? I was Told the other day by Jeffrey St Clair that you and David Cobb were going to get the chance, but haven’t seen it there yet. Here is my exchange with St Clair:
I’ve been a big fan of CounterPunch for a few years now. I think it is one of the best out there among the various voices in the progressive media — you guys publish a lot of gutsy, hard hitting left oriented journalism and allow some important voices to be heard that just don’t get any play in most other publications. I can see from the comments section on facebook that you have a lot of dedicated readers and strong supporters.
However, and I’m not sure to what extent you are aware of it, two of your recent pieces have seriously ruffled a lot of feathers among your faithful readership. Judging by the comments on facebook, it seems that many CounterPunch followers are pretty damned pissed off by the recent articles by Yoav Litvin and Joshua Frank attacking Caitlin Johnstone and some of those who have embraced her, especially David Cobb. It seems you guys might have shot yourselves in the foot on this issue.
I assume that, like any good progressive, you understand the profoundly negative impact the repeal of the fairness doctrine has had on the quality of mainstream corporate journalism over the past several years, right? You believe in allowing dissenting voices to be heard, even when you don’t agree with them, I trust? In that spirit, in the interest of intellectual honesty and open debate within the ranks of progressive journalism — not to mention the interests of maintaining the loyalty of your readership — I strongly urge you to allow someone to respond to these two recent articles. sincerely, Stuart Davies

Not sure what you’re referring to Stuart. We have a piece by Cobb and Johnstone set to run tomorrow. — JSC
