“The Cloud” — but what about the pipes?
Has it ever occurred to you whilst you enter you credit card details into the latest SaaS cloud vendor or infrastructure host, that you’re making an assumption that the pipes will in fact connect, and you and your customers will reach your IT nirvana, an oasis of innovation and transformation fertility residing somewhere in the heavens.
I very much doubt it.
You’re more than happy to shove your data (aka your business) under the ocean to ensure you join the swelling crowds who collectively chant at you this is the next best thing.
Heard of the phrase “lower than whale sh*t”?
Well that’s precisely where your business lives, and how your customers connect with you. Oh don’t get me wrong, it’s brilliant. Unbelievable actually.
But why do we send them all on this epic journey, when they, and their devices are right here, now, right in front of you! No big data journey to the cloud required is there?
There has to be an alternative to consider before the bubble bursts and something goes horribly wrong, as it frequently does (and usually blamed on our old mute friend, the technical glitch: the poor thing!).
Maybe it’s not about the end points and how fast we get from A to B, but the connection itself, the pipes, the bit in the middle. Sometimes the answer is sitting there right underneath our collective turned up noses.
