Thanks so much for your insightful call to action. There is one item I think should be added to your list: encourage students to seek out outsider perspectives and out-of-network input.

It’s true that the majority of professional opportunities come from people we know. But perhaps we should also encourage students to look for people with possibly the opposite backgrounds. There is a virtue in diversity and perhaps this virtue can be taught alongside the networking skills.
