From August 16–25, 2019, The Ohio State University students made their way to campus, some for the first time ever. During their first week, the Office of Student Life helped them feel right at home with more than 150 events. In case you couldn’t make it everything, here is a rundown of what you missed:
During Move-In, we welcomed more than 7,000 students home on the Columbus campus.
At the Student Involvement Fair, members from more than 700 student organizations, campus departments and community agencies set up booths or displays on The Oval. Thousands of students attended the fair, discovering many of the orgs that fit their needs and interests.
Monday, August 19, was a busy one for our new Buckeyes. They started their day hearing from President Michael V. Drake during the President’s Convocation. Then new students discovered all Columbus has to offer during the Columbus Welcome, where they won prizes to many of the great sites, attractions and opportunities in the city.
After their morning at The Schottenstein Center, students headed Buck-i-Frenzy at the RPAC. The 12th annual lifestyle festival provided students with an afternoon of food, fun and free stuff!
Next up: the first day of classes! Luckily, our upperclassmen were able to give our #New2OSU students some advice for their first year on-campus.
After the excitement from the first day of classes settled, students got hyped for football season and all Ohio State sports during Buckeye Kick-Off. Students learned about Buckeye spirit and traditions from TBDBITL, student-athletes, Block O and other special guests!
To wrap up the week, students participated in community service. The annual Community Commitment event allows more than 1,000 students the opportunity to give back to their community. This year, students completed service projects at Goodwill Columbus, COSI, Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed and Stoddart Ave. Community Garden.
Though Welcome Week is over, the Buckeye fun is just getting started. Mark your calendars and get ready to join us on October 4, 2019 for Homecoming!
