10 things to know before you visit Disneyland, Orlando

As a 90’s kid, I have spent my childhood believing in magic — right from Once Upon A Time to Happily Ever After. But only when I grew up, did I realized that the people who are installing this dreaminess in me are not just movie makers. They are believers themselves. After all, the building of this great empire started with just a mouse.

I had heard that Disneyland was over rated. But I urge everyone who can, to visit it once in a life time. Its an experience you won’t forget.

Here are some things that may help you make full use of the rather expensive tickets to Magic Kingdom.

1. Buy tickets online and avoid wasting time and energy on the ticket counter. You’re going to need both through the day.

2. Its best to look at the Disney map and a list of all the rides, and plan in advance. The geographical area is HUGE, and you would want to know whats in store in the direction you’re walking. The Disney Mobile App is your best friend.

3. The lines WILL be long, no matter what time of the year you visit. Fast pass allows you to book a certain ride for an hour (varies for certain rides). So you can stand in line for some other ride, have a gala time and come back to the first ride with a VIP entry.

4. If you are less than 4 people, try using the ‘single rider’ line. It moves much quicker and you’ll still mostly end up together, or at max just a seat away from each other.

5. Carry water bottles. And food if you can. It is undeniably expensive inside. If you still want the Disney food experience, check out the menu and make a reservation in advance.

6. Wear sports shoes. There’s a lot of walking and standing and you’re going to need every part of your body to cooperate.

7. Orlando can get really hot. You might want to be in rides that are covered or have shade in the most sunny hours of the day. Keep the outdoor activities for the morning, or evening. PLAN PLAN PLAN!

8. Do not be afraid to dress like your favourite character! It is common, and just makes the experience more fun. Let your hair down. Lose yourself completely. You’re allowed to.

9. If its your birthday, or anniversary you might want to say so at the ticket counter. They’ll give you a pin or badge, and you’ll have kind strangers wishing you all day! Its all about the simple joys of life.

10. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT miss the fireworks in the end. I legit had a teardrop in my eye by the end of it. Its a different kind of trance, with music, lights a parade and a show about the entire evolution of Disney and its beliefs.

And always remember, “If you can dream it, you can do do it” — Walt Disney.
